Running the race to permissable: 1 Cor.9-10

Corinthians 9: 24-27
24
Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Corinthians 10:23-24
23 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”[h]—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial. 24 Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.

Paul is talking about running the race to win. I guess the question to us is what will we win? A new car? A new house? A bigger house? Paul is talking about the eternal prize that Christ has for those who are saved by His grace through salvation. He says to run with purpose. he is talking about having the goal in the mind. The prize is eternity with Christ. That should make us as Christians run the race faster and stronger knowing that there is eternity in mind. Eternity is not at the forefront and it should not hinder us from doing God's work today. It should be the goal the place where God says "Well done good and faithful servant." This is because I have run the race with purpose and diligence.

Along with the above, I must run the race knowing that I should be concerned with others more than myself.
